Will Vincent ’26 pitches Globe Life

posted on April 10, 2026

Will Vincent ’26 pitched Globe Life (NYSE: GL) on April 6, 2026. Globe Life is a life and health insurance company that operates in the United States. The firm sells insurance products primarily to middle-income families and individuals in the United States. They also make a substantial amount of their net income from their investing business.

Will’s investment thesis centered around the steepening yield curve, the firm’s growing Medicare business, private credit allocation, distribution network, and its discount due to regulatory headwinds.

As an insurance company, Globe Life’s ‘cost’ is the short end of the yield curve, and their ‘investment’ is the long end. Because they use long duration bonds to hedge price risk in their life insurance business, they benefit tremendously from a steepening yield curve where their long end investments realize higher yields and their short end costs go down. Additionally, their investing business has started to dip their toes in the private markets by leveraging their Bermuda-based reinsurance subsidiary to streamline investments and take advantage of the illiquidity premium in private credit.

The firm’s health insurance business is their growth engine, as they have started to offer one-off policies like cancer diagnosis and Medicare gap insurance. They do this with an exclusive distribution force of over 7,500 agents which is being enhanced with artificial intelligence. Globe Life also has industry leading underwriting costs.

SMIF voted not to purchase the stock, with questions around regulatory headwinds and private credit concerns.
