Yuqin Yang ’24 pitched Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: LYV) on April 8, 2024. Live Nation Entertainment operates as a live entertainment company headquartered in Beverly Hills, California. It is the world’s largest ticket seller and promoter of live entertainment, which connects over 670 million fans across all of its concerts and ticketing platforms in about 50 countries. It also owns and operates entertainment venues and manages the careers of music artists.
Yuqin’s investment thesis highlighted the potential growth of the whole live music industry, which has rebounded quickly after COVID-19, and the industry is expected to remain attractive with a steady growth outlook, which is estimated to be worth $38 billion annually by 2030. Yuqin also highlighted Live Nation’s track record and reputation both domestically and internationally, which provides it with a stronger position in the industry and more extensive database compared with its competitors. Due to fellow students’ views on Live Nation’s current high beta and lack of similar public companies to compare with, the class concluded that investing in LYV would raise potential risks and ultimately voted not to add LYV to the portfolio.
