Lauren Grandon ’25 pitched Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) on October 21st, 2024. Netflix is the world’s leading streaming service provider. Their current suite of offerings include originally produced and licensed titles, featuring widely popular television shows, movies and documentaries. Most recently, Netflix has expanded their platform to include video games and live television. Netflix is currently home to over 282 million subscribers in 190 countries.
Lauren’s investment thesis highlighted Netflix’s current growth strategy, which is centered around their expansion into live sports, their growing gaming business, capitalizing on their advertising revenues, original content, strong global presence, and finally, their resilient and growing subscriber base. During the company’s quarter three earnings call, it was stated that the company will report a 15% increase in revenues year-over-year, and a 27% operating margin, ultimately exceeding expectations.
Due to the Netflix stock currently trading at an all time high, SMIF voted to track the performance of Netflix for the remainder of the semester and revisit a trade proposal when the stock reaches approximately $715 per share.
